A small group from the NZWA recently visited the Conservation Studio at Knole House in Sevenoaks to see the Hinemihi Maori carvings taken from the Meeting House in Clandon Park. The carvings are being partially restored and cared for in this National Trust conservation studio while a decision is being made on their future.

We were given a history of the carvings by Alan Gallop who has written a book on Hinemihi. It was very interesting to hear the background to these beautiful carvings.

The National Trust are working with the Te Maru o Hinemihi committee and NZ Heritage for the future of the Hinemihi carvings.
