The members of the Association, by prior arrangement with
the secretary, usually meet for lunch on the first Thursday
of each month at:
The Penthouse,
New Zealand House,
Haymarket,
London
We are often entertained by a Speaker who has a story to
tell with a Kiwi ‘flavour’. Here are some of our New Zealand
stars who have lunched with us recently...
Phillip Somerville (Christchurch) Royal Milliner
Simon Carr -author and Jim Bolger’s speech writer
Susan Baragwanath -educationalist and social reformer
(Porirua)
Barbara Ewing -actress and author (Wellington)
Blythe Tait -Olympic equestrian (Hawkes Bay)
Jonathan Porrit -environmentalist and son of Sir Arthur
Porrit
Baroness Shirley Williams -Politician
Sir Paul Beresford -Politician
Our Patron is Marguevite Southwell, wife of the head of
the New Zealand defence staff, London.
Waitangi Day in February is celebrated by attending
a special church service at St. Lawrence Jewry, City of
London, followed by tea in the Girdlers' hall. For many years
members have been entertained by the Worshipful Company of
Girdlers, an ancient City Guild, a link of which we are very
proud.
In June we take the opportunity to
leave the heat of London and visit one of our members 'at
home'. This occasion is one of our most popular events where
lunch is usually held in the garden followed by a visit to a
nearby place of special interest.
During September we hold an evening cocktail party
and finish the year with a magnificent Christmas luncheon
in the Penthouse. A raffle is usually held for a New Zealand
charity.
Every function sees the Penthouse of New Zealand house
filled to capacity. Members are given an opportunity to meet
in an atmosphere of warmth and friendship, and share good
New Zealand food whilst enjoying the magnificent view of Westminster
and the City from the 17th floor.
As proud New Zealanders we are keen to keep
strong links with home.
Please note:
As a result of the updated security system at New Zealand
House, regrettably no member nor their guest may be admitted
to any of our functions without prior booking with the secretary.
