At our lunch on 7th March, we had a very interesting talk from Neil Durden-Smith OBE who has had a varied and interesting career as a Naval Officer, First Class Cricketer, Sports Commentator and Producer. During his Naval career, he was Naval Aide-de-Camp to Viscount Cobham, GCMG, TD when he was Governor General in New Zealand. Neil Spent two years in NZ from 1957-1959 and we were fascinated with his many stories, often very amusing, during his time there. For many of us, who were youngsters then, it was a chance to reminisce on those days.
Neil was accompanied by his wife, Judith Chalmers CBE, whom many of you will remember from TV presentations including ‘Wish You Were Here’.
We were joined at this lunch by Helen Sargent, President of the Australian Women’s Club London, AWCL and several of their members and also Ameeta Sabharwal, Secretary of the Federation of International Women’s Associations in London, FIWAL. We enjoyed a lovely lunch and thanks to all those who joined us.
