On 22nd March a group of us enjoyed a particularly interesting tour of┬áthe Cathedral with our very knowledgeable guide, V. She presented us with an overview of the long history of Southwark and then took us on a personal tour of her favourite corners of this vast historic building. Some of the highlights included the Harvard Chapel, The Pugin Tabernacle, Shakespeare’s Memorial and Window, The Medieval Roof Bosses, the commemorative plaque to Isabella Gilmore, who was responsible for the revival of the female diaconate at Southwark in the late 19th century and the Archaeological Chamber under the first floor.
